Helping people live well with migraine

Living with migraine impacts every part of your life. By combining psychotherapy and pain neuroscience, I help people change their relationship with pain. With my own lived experience of chronic migraine, I know real change is possible.

Is this you?

You’ve tried everything and nothing makes a difference
You’re worn out from pushing through while no one else sees
You feel guilty for cancelling plans, missing work and impacting others
You worry about the next time, never quite able to relax

My approach

Migraine and chronic pain are complex. While medical care and medication are important, they don’t address the emotional, psychological, and nervous system factors that shape how you experience pain day to day.

We will focus on:

  • Understanding why your brain and body produce pain – and what you can do about it
  • Developing nervous system regulation skills
  • Addressing anxiety, guilt and the emotional burden of pain
  • Navigating work, family and relationships while living with migraine

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a replacement for medical treatment?

No. Psychotherapy is not a substitute for medical diagnosis or treatment. This work complements the care you receive from your GP, neurologist or headache specialist by addressing the emotional, psychological and nervous system factors that medical care doesn’t reach. Please continue to work with your treating clinician alongside our sessions.

How many sessions will I need?
There’s no fixed number – it depends on what you’re bringing and what you want from the work. Some people come for a focused piece of work over a few months; others stay longer if a deeper transformation is required. We’ll review how things are going regularly, and you’re free to finish whenever you choose.
Do you work online?
Yes. Sessions are available online via video call, or in person at The Beacon Therapy Centre in Sandyford, Dublin 18. Many clients attend in-person and choose online sessions occasionally when attending in person is difficult.
Do I need a referral?

No. You can book a session directly with me. No referral from a GP or consultant is needed. I do welcome referrals from healthcare professionals and if your doctor has suggested psychological support, you’re in the right place.

How will this help me?
There is growing evidence that psychological and lifestyle factors may influence how often migraine occurs and how severe it is. Together we work on the factors within your influence: understanding how your brain and body produce pain, recognising your early warning signs, calming your nervous system, easing the anxiety and guilt that so often come with migraine, and protecting your health within the demands of work and family life.
How long is a session, and how much does it cost?
Sessions are weekly, 50 minutes in duration and the session fee is €80.
Some Irish health insurance plans offer partial reimbursement for a set number of sessions per year with an IACP-accredited psychotherapist – check your policy or ask your insurer directly.
Psychotherapy fees may separately qualify for income tax relief as health expenses – visit revenue.ie or citizensinformation.ie for the latest rules.
When can I start?
Get in touch by emailing hello@painsense.ie and I’ll let you know my current availability. In your first session we’ll talk about what’s bringing you here, you’ll get a feel for how I work, and we can decide together whether this is a good fit for you.
